Washers and dryers are energy vampires.  To offset this do full loads of laundry whenever possible.  Also, use the cold water cycle and clean the lint filter out after each dryer cycle is finished. When purchasing a new dryer opt for one that has the moisture indicator.  This will shut the dryer off when it senses the clothes are dry.
